Perca fluviatilis
Biological group : Fish
Family : Percidae
Class : Actinopterygii
Order : Perciformes
Environment : Freshwater_brackish
European perch inhabit a very wide range of environments, from lakes and reservoirs to medium-sized rivers and some estuarine lagoons.
They are opportunistic daytime predators, often feeding actively around sunrise and sunset. Young fish commonly form groups, while larger individuals may become more independent.
Larvae and small juveniles feed mainly on zooplankton and small invertebrates. As they grow, perch increasingly exploit benthic prey and eventually fish.
Spawning generally occurs in spring. Eggs are laid in long gelatinous ribbons attached to vegetation, branches, stones or other submerged objects.
