Crustacé décapode d’eau douce européen.
Noble crayfish live exclusively in freshwater, including lakes, ponds, rivers and smaller streams with good water quality. They favour areas with abundant shelter such as stones, roots and bank burrows.
They are mainly crepuscular and nocturnal. During the day they usually remain hidden under stones, in cavities or burrows and emerge mainly at night to feed.
They are opportunistic omnivores feeding on aquatic insects, worms, molluscs, plant material, detritus and dead animal matter.
Mating generally takes place in autumn. Fertilised eggs remain attached beneath the female's abdomen throughout winter and the young hatch in spring or early summer.
